Installing Gentoo Linux 2006.1 AMD64 on a Compaq Presario V3015NR

80 Gig SATA Drive	Works	No special procedure required during installation

Internal 56k Modem	Didnt try	Who uses modems still anyways?
8x Dual Layer DVD+-RW With Lightscribe	Works	LightScribe wont work with linux, because its proprietary
Internal Broadcom Corporation Dell Wireless 1390 WLAN Mini-PCI Card	Doesn't Work	Working on it....
6 Cell Lithium-Ion Battery	Works	No special procedure required during installation
nVidia MVP51 High Definion Audio	Works	Had to enable PNP and ALSA in the kernel config, the headphone out still doesnt work for some reason...working on it

This laptop is operating under Kernel version 2.6.17-gentoo-r5

Basic Installation of Gentoo:

Why to use Gentoo: Ive been told its the best distro, i wouldnt disagree
Obtaining Gentoo: www.gentoo.org
Installing Gentoo: Use the AMD64 LiveCD and do a graphical install. When you do the install, do not install any extra packages (eg. gnome, kde, firefox, etc.) For some reason it kept freezing after the base install. Instead, install those programs after you reboot into your gentoo kernel.
Post-Install modifications/tweaks: Enable SMP, PNP, and ALSA in your kernel. Get nVidia drivers from www.nvidia.com

Unresolved issues

No audio output through headphone jack
No Wireless
