Yes, it Works!
¡Sí, funciona!
Yes, if you have a Compaq Presario M2000 with AMD 64 bits Turion, and
a Mandriva 2006 Free Edition (or better), your laptop work fine, and WIFI
too.
There was any problem during the instalation. In this process, the video card,
the sound card was detected whithout any problem.
Any problem?, well, there was one minor problem, the WIFI
card.
But, before explain how to configure your WIFI card, i want to explain
what work, o what not work.
Keyboard:
Volumen: I can't get configure the VOLUME UP, VOLUME DOWN, and MUTE
keys.
Function key work, and Fn+F7, and Fn+F8 (bright- and bright +) it works.
Windows key works.
Configuring WIFI Card.
The only thing really important that Mandriva 2006 can't configure by itself is
your WIFI card. And yes, you NOT NEED any USB WIFI Receiver.
Configuration Steps:
1. Normally this laptop come with Windows XP, instaled, but, wait a minute...
What is the architecture of your Windows XP, 32 or 64 bits?
This is important, because you must download the proper driver.
Download drivers: (need unzip):
ftp://ftp.support.acer-euro.com/notebook/aspire_3020_5020/driver/
Driver for Windows XP 64 Bits
Driver for Windows XP 32 Bits
How to install the drivers?
Start drakconf from the console, or from your desktop menu.
I must tell to you, that at this point, and as you have noticed, my english
is very poor, and I have Mandriva configured in Spanish, so, this explication
is only an aproximation.
- Uncompress the zip with the driver, and remember the path.
- Start drakconf, and choose Network and Internet.
- Configure a new network interface.
- Choose Wireless or something like that.
- Choose Using Windows controller, or something like that. Choose ndiswrapper.
- Si no tenemos ndiswrapper, Mandriva nos preguntará si queremos instalalo.
- Pickup the bcmwl5.inf. (Select first the folder with the driver)
- If anything goes wrong, be sure that you download the proper driver.
- Next, and in ESSID, choose a name for your WIFI conecction.
- Configure your ADSL normally. Be sure your data connections.
- If no work, start drakconf, go to Network and internet, choose Wireless, and connect.
If finally not work, get help from any forum, friend, etc.
Good Luck!
y Mandriva 2006 Free Edition (o mejor), tu portatil funcionará correctamente,
Tecla función: Fn, Fn+F7 (Brillo-, Brillo+) funciona perfecto. Parece que
va por hardware.
Tecla windows funciona bien.
1. Normally this laptop come with Windows XP, instaled, but, wait a minute...
Descarga drivers: (necesitas unzip):
ftp://ftp.support.acer-euro.com/notebook/aspire_3020_5020/driver/
Driver for Windows XP 64 Bits
Driver for Windows XP 32 Bits
¿Cómo instalar el driver?
Arranca drakconf, y escoge Internet y Redes.
- Arranca drakconf, y escoge Internet y Redes.
no has escogido el driver adecuado.
- A
(Internet Service Provider).
- Si no se arranca, en drakconf, ve
a Redes e Internet, conexión inalámbrica, seleccionar Conectar, y tras
No has elegido el driver adecuado a tu arquitectura windows. No
