Problems encounted...
The M510c suffers from the "garbage" bug
but thats not all...
You will also need to disable acpi during the install and while booting
the kernel, this can be done from the install prompt as follows...
linux
acpi=off nofb

Installation
The M510c comes with either an ATi 9600 or 9700 mobile Radeon,
installation was simple and trouble free.
You
will need the following rpms
ftp://ftp.pbone.net/mirror/rpm.livna.org/fedora/4/i386/RPMS.lvn/ati-fglrx-8.14.13.1-0.lvn.5.4.i386.rpm
ftp://ftp.pbone.net/mirror/rpm.livna.org/fedora/4/i386/RPMS.lvn/kernel-module-fglrx-2.6.11-1.1369_FC4-8.14.13.1-0.lvn.5.4.i686.rpm
I get 2258fps on glxgears and 445fps on fgl_glxgears.

I can play Unreal
Tournament 2004
at 1280x1024 everything HIGHEST and
its liquid. Quake
3/Team Arena at
1024x768
everything HIGH and I get above 80fps
on
any timedemo map!

The INTEL modem in this laptop seems to work well with the SmartLink
Drivers
First add the following line to /etc/modprobe.conf
install snd_intel8x0m /bin/true
Then
rmmod snd_intel8x0m
Then
make and make
install the following.
http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/packages/smartlink/slmodem-2.9.9e-pre1.tar.gz
or slmodem-2.9.9e-pre1.tar.gz on this server
Then
cp -Rf /dev/slamr0
/etc/udev/devices/
Then copy the following file into /etc/init.d/
http://oasis.dit.upm.es/~jantonio/personal/aspire1410/slmodemd
or slmodemd on this server
Give it permissions
chmod 755 /etc/init.d/slmodemd
And edit line 18 in that file to reflect the correct country, country
names can be take from
slmodemd --countrylist
Finally
chkconfig --levels 345
slmodemd
reboot

The Intel PROWireless works really well on this laptop.
You
will need to install the following rpms.
ftp://ftp.pbone.net/mirror/atrpms.net/fc4-i386/atrpms/testing/ipw2200-firmware-2.3-6.at.noarch.rpm
ftp://ftp.pbone.net/mirror/atrpms.net/fc4-i386/atrpms/testing/ipw2200-kmdl-2.6.11-1.1369_FC4-1.0.4-29.rhfc4.at.i686.rpm
Dont
forget to turn the card ON using the antena button.
